Signs of a wet crawl space

A pump may be needed when collected water cannot leave by gravity. The discharge point should move water away from the foundation and avoid return flow.
Ground vapor barrier
A vapor barrier covers exposed soil and slows ground moisture from entering the air. It should be fitted around piers, pipes, posts, wall edges, and other openings. A basic barrier does not stop flooding; active water may need drainage first.
Crack and wall moisture control
Accessible non-structural cracks may be sealed when they form part of the water path. Damp walls may need crack work, a wall barrier, or better exterior drainage. Wide or moving cracks may need separate foundation review.
Humidity control
A dehumidifier may help after active leaks and standing water are controlled. It should not be the only response to an ongoing water source.

Waterproofing
Focuses on liquid water and active entry using drainage, pumps, crack sealing, wall-water control, runoff correction, and sometimes a ground barrier.
Encapsulation
Creates a wider moisture boundary using a liner over the ground and potentially up walls or around supports, with air sealing and humidity control.
Waterproofing may come first when standing water or active leakage is present. A liner should not cover an active water problem without a plan to collect and remove that water.
